The goal would be to learn data privacy, mobile development, and server-side technologies by building a pedestrian traffic app with a UI similar to Waze. Pedestrian traffic, both in real-time and historically, can be used for several purposes. Well-traveled pedestrian routes should suggest higher pedestrian safety, less vehicular traffic, and better scenery. The challenge for such a solution will be privacy. Users should not be expected to provide personally identifiable information (PII) to the app. Any location tracking will occur at the device level and protections should be in place to ensure no additional data can be leaked. Given the appropriate interest and skill level, the potential to utilize blockchain in the solution will be explored.
