A vision of a dystopian future gripped by chaos and despair, where leaked nuclear radiation has devastated the world and pushed humanity to the brink of collapse. This concept was brought to life through a Scratch-based game designed entirely by first-time developers—total amateurs who had no prior exposure to coding before CodeDay. Through curiosity, teamwork, and determination, we transformed a complex and haunting scenario into an interactive experience, blending storytelling, visuals, and gameplay in a way we never thought possible before this event.

How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?

Before this event, our group had no prior experience with coding. This was our very first time exploring how programming works, and CodeDay gave us the opportunity to learn and build something completely from scratch. We created our project using Scratch, and while most of the sprites and props were made by us, we also used a few AI-generated sprites to help speed up the creative process. All other visual elements and assets, including additional props and designs, were created entirely by our team. We did not use any pre-made starter kits or music from outside sources. Overall, this project reflects a mix of creativity, learning, and teamwork as we explored game development for the first time.

What challenges did you encounter?

As first-time developers, we faced numerous technical and creative hurdles during the course of the project. Scratch, while beginner-friendly, presented its own set of limitations—we encountered persistent bugs and unexpected glitches that significantly slowed our development process and required extensive troubleshooting. In addition, the character and background design phase proved to be both time-intensive and creatively demanding. Crafting original visual assets from the ground up required a great deal of iteration, attention to detail, and coordination within the team. Despite these challenges, the experience was deeply rewarding and helped us rapidly develop new problem-solving and collaboration skills.
