Ashes of Tomorrow is a branching psychological visual novel that follows Ayaan Mir, a brilliant student whose future slowly collapses after turning to drugs as an escape from pressure, expectations, and emotional isolation. Rather than focusing only on physical addiction, the game explores the gradual mental deterioration that affects his identity, relationships, and sense of reality. Every player decision creates ripple effects that shape Ayaan’s life and the lives of those around him, leading to multiple emotionally driven endings. As memories distort and relationships fracture, the game demonstrates the theme “Chain Reaction” through the quiet destruction of potential, trust, and human connection — showing how one moment of escape can silently alter countless futures forever. Artificial intelligence was not used in the making of this project.

How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?

We had no experience whatsoever. We had but a laptop and some motivation when we first stepped through the gateways. While our project doesn't 'use' anything we didn't create, it does take profuse inspiration from some philosophers and authors—especially since the main idea revolved around decisions and morals.

What challenges did you encounter?

We encountered various challenges along the way. For starters, we had no idea what an interactive fiction story even was. We just sort of went with the flow. Then, our story looked bland. We wanted a typewriter animation, but had no idea how to do that. After countless attempts, the sun wouldn't rise.

Even though coding was clearly not our forte, we remained valiant and somehow managed to squeeze out a somewhat acceptable project.
