Every existence has a beginning. Not every existence has an end.

A FORM UNWRITTEN is an exploration-driven fantasy RPG about an immortal being who awakens in a world without a past, a physical body, or an identity of his own.

His existence is held together by a mysterious garment that allows him to manifest in the physical world. Its origin remains unknown. Ordinary people see only the garment, while beings of extraordinary power can perceive something far more mysterious beneath it.

Begin your journey through The Shattered Verge, an ancient land filled with forgotten civilizations, enigmatic characters, environmental puzzles, hidden discoveries and remnants of a forgotten existence.

Explore mysterious regions, uncover secrets, solve intricate challenges, discover hidden quests, collect extraordinary relics and make choices that shape your journey.

But this is only the beginning.

Beyond the Shattered Verge lies an enormous world of kingdoms, cities, guilds, dungeons and mysteries spanning centuries. Its history has already been written. Its future has not.

Your soul has no predetermined colour. Your identity has no predetermined class. Your future has no predetermined path.

Discover the world. Uncover what was forgotten. Decide what you become.

Welcome to A FORM UNWRITTEN.

What tools did you use to create your project?

  • typescript
  • javascript

How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?

This is a solo project developed by me with limited prior game-development experience. I designed the game concept, world, narrative, progression systems and gameplay direction, while using AI coding assistants, primarily Google Gemini through Antigravity, as development support.

The game is built using Phaser 3, TypeScript, JavaScript and Vite.

AI-generated concept artwork was used as visual reference material during development. The current in-game environments are primarily generated programmatically using Phaser. AI-assisted development was used throughout implementation, debugging and testing.

What challenges did you encounter?

One of the biggest challenges was turning an ambitious open-world fantasy RPG concept into a playable experience within a very limited development timeframe.

Building interconnected quests, environmental puzzles, character progression, a persistent world map with fog of war, branching story decisions and a reliable save system required careful planning and integration.

Another challenge was creating an immersive experience using a browser-based 2D engine while aiming for cinematic depth, atmospheric environments and Full HD rendering.

As a solo beginner developer, learning game architecture, debugging complex interactions, maintaining compatibility with existing saves and testing the game across different screen sizes were significant parts of the journey.
